The weekend of January 11th and 12th, we competed in the Roto Grip Eagles Baker Classic. We took 2 teams to this event. The event consisted entirely of baker games. Saturday we bowled 6 sets of 4 games each. Sunday we then bowled 4 sets of 4 games each. After all 40 baker games were complete, they cut to the top 8 teams in the varsity division and the top 4 JV teams for a bracket match play finals. The matches would consist of best of 5 baker games.
Saturday Varsity started with sets of 779, 705, 838, 714, 847, and 827 for a total of 4710. This put us in 5th position heading into Sunday, 56 pins out of 4th and 54 pins ahead of 8th. JV rolled sets of 629, 720, 672, 630, 733, and 676 for a total of 4060. This put us in 7th place and only 165 pins out of the cut.
Sunday Varsity rolled 787, 716, 781, and 841 for a Sunday total of 3125 and a grand total of 7835. This kept us in 5th place for qualifying and put us into the Varsity match play finals. Junior Varsity had sets of 663, 641, 697, and 668 for a Sunday total of 2669 and a grand total of 6729. This also kept us in 7th place, just missing the cut for JV match play.
The Varsity Match Play Finals were best of 5 games baker matches. We were the 5 seed and paired up against the 4 seed of Clarke University. We lost the first game close 191-196. The second game we started off strong and won the game 224-142. Series tied 1-1. Third game another close one that we won 202-188. 2-1 Purdue. The Fourth game was yet another close one that we lost 192-199. Tied 2-2, 5th and final game for the match. 213-140 Purdue Wins in 5.
Next up was the 1 seed, Robert Morris - Illinois. We never really got going this match and lost in straight games, 226-178, 224-184, and 207-179. Overall this was a good tournament for us starting off the second semester.
