On February 14 and 15, Purdue competed in the Hoosier Classic held at Western Bowl in Indianapolis, IN. This tournament is a tier 1 tournament, so many teams, both varsity and junior varsity, have the opportunity to participate. Both Purdue’s men’s and women’s varsity teams participated. Overall, 78 men’s varsity teams and 67 women’s varsity teams competed over the weekend. The format of the tourney was 6 team games on Saturday followed by 3 more team games and bracket play on Sunday. The bracket play consisted of the top eight men’s and top eight women’s teams with a best three out of five format.
The teams fought hard and gave it their all on two grueling oil patterns over the weekend. Purdue’s men’s team finished in 21st with a total pinfall of 8450 over the nine team games. Meanwhile, the women’s team finished 45th with 7518 total pins.
Individually, a couple of Purdue’s bowlers finished in the top 50. Zach Weidman placed 26th with a total pinfall of 1818 and Zach Dohner tied for 43rd with 1790 pins. Way to go, guys!
