On December 29 and 30, the Men and Women Boilermaker varsity teams traveled to their second of two tournaments in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This tournament was the Lehigh Valley Classic at AMF Parkway Lanes. The tournament was another Tier 1 competition and hosted most of the same competition as our previous tournament in Allentown. In total there were 37 men's teams, 2 of which were JV, while there were 24 women's teams, including 1 JV team. The format of the tournament was 5 teams games on Saturday followed by 20 baker games on Sunday, high total scratch pinfall wins.
The men had a rough start to the tournament struggling to find a good look and had to grind through the day to end up in 11th position, 395 pins behind 1st position. The ladies ended Saturday in 21st position with a total of 3749 pins going into Sunday.
On Sunday, the men tried to push as hard as they could and they put up some big numbers to jump to 9th position for the tournament. There was only a 101 pin difference between 3rd and 9th position. The boilermaker men showed that they could come together and work hard to improve. This is something the boilers have been working on all season and want to carry into sectionals. The women remained in the 22nd position at the end of the tournament.
Individually, we had 2 men in the top 50. Kenton Williams finished in 28th, averaging 195 for 5 games. Our other individual, Zach Weidman, bowled spectacular and finished 1st and won the individual title for the Lehigh Valley Classic! Zach averaged 216 for the 5 games. Congratulations Zach!
On the women's side, Megan Reust finished in 29th position, averaging 182 for the 5 games.
This tournament marked the end of our journey to Allentown, Pennsylvania. The boilermaker bowlers are now getting prepared for the Eagle Baker Challenge in Addison, Illinois!
