On October 10 and 11, the Purdue bowling club participated in the Western Shootout at
Western Bowl in Indianapolis, IN. All four of Purdue’s teams (three men’s teams and one women’s team) competed this weekend. Overall, 40 men’s teams and 37 women’s teams participated in the tournament. The format of this tourney was 6 team games on Saturday followed by 16 baker games on Sunday, total scratch pinfall wins.
On Saturday, the Men's Varsity team shot 5805, which put them in 8th place going into day two. The JV1 team ended up in 24th place after the six games, with a total of 5224. The JV2 team shot 4188, which put them in 40th. The Women's team shot 4858, which put them in 20th position.
When Sunday came, we knew that we could improve and finish strong. The Men's Varsity team finished with a score of 8870 and in the 8th position. The JV1 team finished in 21st with a score of 7970 and the JV2 finished in 40th with a score of 6629. The Women's team finished in 16th with a score of 7551.
Individually, we had three men and one women finish in the top 50 of the tournament. On the men’s varsity team, Zach Weidman finished in 2nd with a score of 1325 while Nick Corbin tied for 13th with 1237 pins. Meanwhile, Aaron Althoff from the JV1 team tied for 50th position with a total of 1126. On the girls’ side, Alexis Cox tied for 43rd with 1059 pins. Congrats!
The Boilermakers are currently preparing for our host tournament, the Boilermaker Classic, at Mike Aulby's Arrowhead bowl in Lafayette, Indiana on October 24 and 25.
