Over winter break, the Boilermaker Men and Women traveled to Allentown, Pennsylvania for two tier one competitions, the Keystone Quaker Classic and the Lehigh Valley Classic. These events spanned from December 27th to December 30th.
The format for the Lehigh Valley Classic was 5 team games followed by 20 baker games on day 2. The Boiler Men put on a grind for day one and finished the day with a total of 4934 pins, 288 back from first. This performance put the boys in sixth place with plenty of room to make a run for a great finish. The Women struggled a bit and couldn't seem to get the momentum train going. After day 1 they had 4135 pins and finished in 10th place.
Day 2 came along and the Boilers knew they could make some positions up if they communicated, made spares, and played as a team, all of which didn't seem to happen altogether at the previous tournament (for the men at least). The men put together a fantastic 4014 set for 20 baker games and boosted themselves all the way up third place! This was the highest Tier 1 finish the Boilers have had in about six years. The women didn't want to give all the credit to the men so they bowled well on Sunday as well and moved up to 9th position for the tournament.
Individual Performances within the top 50 include
Morgan Roth - 15th - 915
Miranda Mott - 28th - 835
Alexis Cox - 29th - 833
Zach Weidman - 19th - 1039
Zach Dohner - 25th - 1008
Nick Corbin - 31st - 1000
Brady Colip - 32nd - 996
Great bowling guys!
This tournament showed a glimpse of what this team can do when they are focused and are playing as a team. Time for the Boilermakers to move into second semester with the big goal in mind now, a bid to the National finals in Wichita, Kansas.
'Til the next tournament,
Boiler Up!
