On February 13 and 14, Purdue's bowling club went to the Trailblazer Classic at the Terre Haute Bowling Center in Terre Haute, IN. Both the men's and women's varsity teams along with the men's JV team participated in the tourney. Overall, 10 men's varsity teams, 4 men's JV teams, 9 women's varsity teams, and 3 women's JV team competed. The format of this tournament was 4 team games followed by 16 baker games on Saturday. On Sunday, the teams were seeded and faced off in a baker's matchplay format: the team that won the best out of five games moved on.
On Saturday, the men's varsity team shot a total of 3800 pins for the team games and 3134 pins for the baker games, putting them in third place at the end of the day with 6934 pins. The men's JV team shot 3162 pins for the team games and 2714 for the baker games, ending the day with 5876 pins in third place out of the JV teams. The women's team shot 3323 pins for the team games and 2519 for the baker games, putting them in fourth place with 5842 total pins.
On Sunday, Purdue men's varsity team faced off against the sixth seed, Missouri Baptist, in matchplay. The teams tied the first game, but Purdue came back to win 3-1-1. The team then challenged the second seed, Vincennes, in the second round of matchplay but lost. Meanwhile, the men's JV team battled the second JV seed, Vincennes, and came out on top for the win. They then faced off against the first seed, Calumet College of St. Joseph, but lost in a grueling battle. For the women, the varsity team challenged the fifth seed, Rochester College, and won in three games. In the second round, however, the ladies bowled against the first place seed, Marian University, and lost.
Individually, Purdue had several players finish in the top quarter. On the men's side, Zach Dohner came in first with 879 pins, and Zach Weidman placed second with a total of 836 pins, both earning a spot on the men's all-tournament team. Congrats, guys! In addition, Brady Colip tied for eleventh with 752 pins. For the women, Alexis Cox placed fourth with 739 pins, earning a spot on the women's all-tournament team. Congrats, Alexis! In addition, Morgan Roth placed ninth with a total of 683 pins, and Maddie Mills came in nineteenth with 639 pins.
